Riley David Saunders
Associate
Riley David Saunders joined Merkel & Cocke, P.A. in August 2024. As a new associate, Riley focuses his practice on representing individuals in medical malpractice, motor vehicle accident, and personal injury cases. He is passionate about helping clients face complex legal issues during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Riley chose a career in law because he believes in standing up for people who can’t always stand up for themselves. That drive to make a difference is what brought him to Merkel & Cocke, and what keeps him committed to delivering strong, thoughtful representation to each client he serves.
Riley grew up in Oxford, Mississippi, and began his undergraduate studies at Mississippi State University, where he played quarterback for the Bulldogs. He later transferred to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he wrapped up his collegiate football career and earned a degree in Political Science in 2012. After a stint in the insurance and financial services industry, Riley attended the University of Mississippi School of Law, graduating cum laude.
He was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 2024 and is licensed to practice before the Mississippi Supreme Court and the U.S. District Courts for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the Mississippi Association for Justice.
Outside the office, Riley enjoys life in the great outdoors—especially hunting anything furred or feathered. He and his wife Lindsey are raising two daughters and a black Lab named Duke, who proudly serves as one of the firm's unofficial canine greeters.
